I have a compaq lappy in which the dvd drive got screwed up, and i dont
currently have the finances to replace it.

I need to reinstall ubuntu now on this lappy.

Is there a possiblity to do a network installation, or install it from a
pendrive?

I would be very glad if you could give me the procedure.

If you live in the states. Replacing the CD drive should be very in-expensive.
