I always reserve the root user for sys administration and a user account for non-sys tasks. However, I do have problems when I try user commands such as xpdf or netscape on command-line.

When I try to open a pdf file,ie:

$xpdf a-pdf-file.pdf

an error occurs, somewhat like this:
Xlib: client cannot connect to server, :"0.0"

Somebody could help me, tnx a lot.

Another question: Is it safe to upgrade my Redhat 7.1 to 8.0? I am very hesitant to upgrade because I do have a lot of files on it.
