Mouse Not working in 7.10

My mouse is not working correctly for some reason in Ubuntu 7.10. It
won't click on anything or let me access my updates. Whenever I try to
update it, it says "CAN'T GRAB MOUSE" What does that mean and How do I
fix it?

Is this a serial mouse or USB?
