How to convert DVDs to other formats

Date: Dec 10    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 439

I'm using Intrepid, and I'm having trouble accessing DVD videos. I want
to be able to convert them to other formats: principally at the moment
to upload to youtube. I've got acidrip installed after consulting
various forums, but it can't see the video, only the audio. It does
however manage to see that there are files on the DVD.

Everything else, including nautilus, just shows an empty folder when I
ask it to "browse folder" on the DVD. It's a DVD I made on a (PAL)
standalone DVD recorder from a camcorder, by the way - should show the
usual video_ts folder with .VOB, .BUP, .IFO etc files.

Has anyone got any idea what I'm missing?

I like HandBrake, but there are several others like AcidRip, WinFF and even
VLC will transcode videos.
Handbrake: www.getdeb.net/search.php?keywords=handbrake
AcidRip: http://untrepid.com/acidrip/
WinFF should be in the repositories, but is also found here:
http://winff.org/html/
VLC is in the repositories.

If you like commandline (I don't) then you can use mencoder. see:

And when you put it back in the recorder, you can play the video?
