Serpentine/Rhythmbox burning question

Date: Dec 27    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 340

I've been using cdrecord to burn audio (or data) to cd-r's for
a number of years, but -- here, in 7.10 -- I tried burning first
with Serpentine, then with Rhythmbox (I assume each uses the same
app). In each case, they failed with a pop-up box wanting a
cd-rw disk.

Any way to set these to work with cd-r's?

I use K3B all the time for CD burning.

K3b is excellent - no need to look at any other!

BUT I don't wish to sound cynical but neither serpentine, rhythmbox,
or the xubuntu one [can't think what it's called now] seem to work. I
played about for a while and got totally fed up... and gave up.
Alright ubuntu going down the gnome route but i feel one might as well
stay KDE (for the apps i use anyway).

There is also one called Brasero which comes with the new Ubuntu
version. I haven't tried it yet though so I can't say much about it. I
used to use k3b but for some reason the cd's does not play correctly for
very long :( Also, now I can't get it to burn audio cd's from mp3's for
some strange reason

May try Brasero, as not only didn't k3b recognize my mp3's, it
failed on known good wav files -- wasting a good blank.

It's not that I really ~need~ a graphical burner, I just kinda
like the idea of not having to convert mp3's to wav, & a visual
indicator of how much space the tracks are using is a nice touch.

Just got it open -- & since I've been a gnome user since
Enlightenment changed absolutely ~everything~ back in 2001 or
2002, the kde-systemsettings so as to not burn my oh-so-sensitive
eyesight -- & it looks OK so far:-).

That's OK. I've not just grown very cynical about ~lots~ of
things over the years -- Luddite that I am -- my 'puter needs
have changed a lot. I guess it's a good thing that I will soon
be the owner of a Mac Mini. While my tried & true P-III 500 will
continue to run Ubuntu, I think I may be converting completely to
the "Everything is done for you" Mac world soon.

Depending on the project at hand I either use GnomeBaker or K3b.
