Cant burn a new iso

Date: Dec 07    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 518

I have totally got myself into a bind.

When I was on 8.04 I burned a 9.04 cd. I used that cd on this laptop.
I just built a new shuttle pc and I used that cd to install ubuntu. I had some
problems on the install so I need reinstall. The cd had errors and wouldnt
reinstall. So I wiped the cd and went to reinstall my 9.04 image. Now I get this
error:

"Please choose another cd: The size of the project is too large..."

I dont know what to do now?

Did you try with a different new CD ?
Is the release you want to burn exactly the same as before ?
Maybe the CD has actually unrecoverable errors (according to the quality)
Which program do you use ? May I suggest KIIIB, it's really great for
managing CDs, DVDs.

are you sure thats a CD-RW? and not a CD-R? when you put in the cd , does
ubuntu recognize it as a blank cd?

Answer #3    Answered On: Dec 07

It sounds like you are trying to use a CD-RW. You might have better luck with a
CD-R.

Use a different CD........................

It must be frustrating! Sounds like you are trying to install to the CD,
instead of a hard drive. Check the name of the medium you have chosen as the
destination of your new install.

Here is what I would do...

I would boot the CD in question on a known good PC and run the CD check that is
part of the Ubuntu Live CD. Depending on the results, if good try to install
again, if bad do 1 through 4 below.

1) DL 9.04 again.
2) Create another CD with K3B or Brasero.
3) Boot that new CD and run the CD check.
4) If all that goes well then do the install.

My original cdrw will run from any windows machine. Turn on the machine and
ubuntu starts right up. Do it on any linux machine - shows a empty disk.

I did start from my windows machine and run the test and it says everything is
fine.

I have just finished downloading another 9.04 iso and tried using K3b to burn it
and received an error at the 2% mark.

Just to be sure, I took the new download next door to my neighbor to have him
burn the image and he received the same problem. Im absolutely stumped. If we
were using the same cd's I would suspect that -- but we are not.

Answer #8    Answered On: Dec 07

you have covered almost all the bases. At least the ones I would have
thought most likely to cause the problem. You are taking the fun out of this...
Could if be that you are getting a bad download? How is that happening, I have
no idea. Just eliminating the possibilities.
Have your neighbor DL and burn a CD.

I had a guy I play indoor with burn a cd and bring it to me... same problem.
Couldnt burn it. I know other people are burning 9.04... as I did... but I dont
know the problem now.

Im downloading 8.04 now and we'll see how it works out.

Answer #11    Answered On: Dec 07

what do you mean... copy the ISO from there on your deksktop... you mean,
change the permission and then write it?

Answer #12    Answered On: Dec 07

Changed the permissions. Wrote the cd.
Start SAO ...
Performing Opt Power Calibration
Sending CUE sheet
Starting disc write
Writing successfully completed..

instead into ubuntu computer - blank disk.

There is a bug report on the issue. Please try the link and see if that helps.

The other round about is to install the alternative ISO and install GNOME or
KDE manually.
The other is this

I hope you are doing well Wade. Yes I am still alive.

This may be a shot in the dark, but are you using a DVD drive with a writable
disk?

Answer #15    Answered On: Dec 07

Have you tried an external DVD drive, via a USB Port?

Answer #16    Answered On: Dec 07

Here is the thing.. its not even JUST my single computer.
Its my wifes and son windows machines, my laptop, my neighbors windows
and linux machines... this is crazy.

Shuttle had me change the SATA drive setting from IDE to
adhi..(something like that) .. didnt work.
And the other thing is - I do have two cd's with 9.04 written to it.

Answer #17    Answered On: Dec 07

Still cant burn 9.04 iso but - that is now beside the point. I was finally able
to reinstall 9.04 on my system and this is how I did it:
Ok... didnt actually solve the problem but I fixed my situation.

Downloaded another 9.04 distro from outside the US.
Used yet another thumb drive.
Wrote to that.
Rebooted.
Hold ESC - boot menu - choose usb-fdd
Reboot
Hold DEL for bios
Look in hd - move the thumb drive to the top
reboot
Im in :D
