port fowarding question

Date: Dec 13    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 306

I have a problem that should be easy to fix but ... Im just not thinking
straight on it right now... anyway...

My router got fragged so Im using another linksys wrt54gl that has ddwrt
installed. I just discovered that my dyndns that usually goes to my
server for client testing - when I turn off port forwarding now my ddwrt
main page is up. Im a little concerned about the information it provides.

Im not sure right now HOW to not show that page to the world.

Is this as simple as forwarding my http port from 80 to another port or,
is this something else.

Are you positive that the world can see this page? If I understand
correctly, if you turn off port forwarding then the HTTP page of the
router is displayed correct?

If this is the case, there should be an option in the UI to turn this
off, in the stock software for linksys routers there almost always is,
if I gather your meaning behind ddwrt correctly, it is a non-stock
software for the router. If this is the case, I'm not sure how.

Myself, I would also divert port 80 traffic to somewhere else, if a
web server is not on that network then I divert it to a non-existent IP.

Also, verify that your router isn't being smart, I know with some
routers if you visit your external IP from inside the network the
router sees that the packets are coming from the inside back to the
inside and gives you access to the main page - while if it really does
come from outside your lan, it does not.

Yea, everyone can see the status page.

I have port forwarding on so when I want a client to see something on my
computer - they can. When I turned it off, the default linksys setup I
thought was to just show a 404 page - or something along those lines.

Smart forwarding???
I got the same ddwrt page from a friends house this morning as I do from
here when I access my url without port forwarding on.

I think I see what you are saying on forwarding to a empty ip... if I do
that then it cant be found either way - right.

Try redirecting just 80 or setting up a default (DMZ) host at a nonexistant IP.
