From recent experience, if anyone decides to experiment with Chakra,
limit your disk burn speed to 4X.

Here's an interim reply - just away to an early appointment.

I downloaded the i686 32 bit version - 1.4 gigs. Took me three
attempts to get it, download very slow and timed out me. However
final attempt OK after nearly eight hours. Burned with K3B on the
Mepis slot of my triple boot desktop on a DVD. Works perfectly
tho' as the Chakra folk warn, there are still some bugs to find and
a slow burn is recommended.

Will look at your ISO when I get home later in the morning. Its
currently 7 am in N.Z.

I think there is a program free called file manager (maybe other programs out
there) that keep track of downloading and if something goes wrong, it knows
where to pick up.

Have looked at your file and it does not match the download
size. K3B says that the download is a 1.4Gb file but the actual length
of what you recorded is only 279.2 Megabytes.

Looks like you have suffered the same as me, a time out somewhere along
the way. To save wasting disks, save your download and do not try to
burn until you have the full file - do a checksum to be sure of it.

K3b will check Md5 sums but if the ISO was bad at source then that won't
help.

in this case things are complicated because Randy
attempted to download the 64 bit version while I have the 32 bit ISO.

IMHO
the present difficulty is the download speed, the disk I eventually to
get works perfectly. I like the Chakra installation procedures, simple
and well documented as one works through the steps. Not so sure about
the overall system yet. Being KDE at the user interfaceit is at least
familiar but I have much more trialling to do.

I meant to download the 32 bit version because the computer I'm putting it on is
very old. Gordon, can you give me the exact link to get the good file (32 bit)
or can you e-mail me the ISO?

Perhaps you were trying to burn the Chakra download on to a CD?
The file is 1.4 Gb and needs a DVD.

I see that Kubuntu will be LTS.

I DLed Chakra 64-bit version and had no problems. Then I burned a
DVD with the ISO, no problems. Booted it up and it worked.

I started the DL around 11:00 PM Eastern Time. It took 2 to 3 hours, I went
to bed, when I went to the bathroom sometime later I checked, it said only
a few minutes left, I waited on the DL to complete, burned a DVD and booted
up the Live-DVD. Worked perfectly. My Internet connection is through the
cable company.

Usually for those large DLs I wait and do late at night when there are less
people trying to do it. Of course, being on east coast, US, time, midnight
here, it is 9:00 PM on the west coast so they are still at it hot and
heavy. 3:00 AM eastern time would probably be a better time.

1.4 Gigs is a bit large to email. The file is

chakra-2012.02-Archimedes-i686.iso

downloaded from: http://iweb.dl.sourceforge.net
