Raid question

Date: Jan 09    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 269

I am trying to install raid 1 on 2 equal sized hard drives using the
Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit alternate install disk. Everything is fine until
after I make the raid and then the raid disk is not formatted.

Would you mind clarifying:

After you make the raid, does the installer launch the partition manager, which
then has the option to format the disk?

Are you opting for an "automatic" setup, or are you doing custom partitioning?

Are the drives identical brands? (you say they are the same size, but afaik it's
best to use identical disks in a raid - flame me if I'm wrong)

The installer launches the partition manager where the instructions say
to partition both disks identically and then make them raid. After I
make them raid, the ext4fs partitions show as being partitioned raid
instead of / .I have not been able to format the raid disk or to make it / .

I am trying this for an "automatic" setup for the initial formatting of
the 2 disks.

Both disks are the same brand, purchased from the same company about 2
weeks apart.
