iMac question

I have a very recent iMac and just received my copy of Ubuntu 7.10......

I connect to the internet via wireless.

While Ubuntu detects the wireless in the device listing, it doesn't
allow me to select it, nor does it show it in the network manager.

I'd like to turn the wireless on and have it show in the network
manager........ which doesn't show it and must do so to allow me to do
any setting with it........ as best as I can tell from the Ubuntu
directions.

Names are given just in general here since I didn't make notes. I DID
download instructions [to print] on how to line-command the
device.......

Anyone know if this is typical with the IntelMacs and Ubuntu???? I
also have a MacBook I'd like to install Ubuntu on.

It should would have been nice if Ubuntu had realized that once
detecting the hardware existed, it would then attempt to use it as
well...........

So far.......... I've only tried running Ubuntu from the CD. I'm not
ready to try installing it on either of my dual-boot Mac-Windows
systems until I back it up........... Just in case something goes sour
on me.

I hope that isn't making a problem for using the wireless connection.

If anyone has worked their way through this problem with Ubuntu and
the IntelMacs, I'd sure like to hear how they solved it.
