Printer problem since switching to 64 bit

As I mentioned yesterday, I have the new system running well, with one
exception, I can't print.

If I try, the job sits in the queue forever, after a while, I get a
popup saying that the printer might not be connected. It is, and it
was seen during set-up, and queue was made for it. lsusb shows:

[...[
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 03f0:2b11 Hewlett-Packard PSC 2170 series
[...]

Which, as far as I know is correct.

The system uses an Nvidia 8200 GeForce motherboard and a AMD Phenom
processor. I am running 8.10, 64 bit.

The printer and USB cable still work, I have the old machine set up
for my wife and friends, and when we move the cable over to it, the
printer is recognised, and prints fine.

When I try to set up a network printer, the printer application
freezes until I kill it Sometimes when I do that, cupsd starts using
100% of the CPU time on one of the cores and has to be restarted.

Any ideas?

There was a cups update yesterday. Did you up date the system yet?

Yes, that was in my latest update, after I was having problems, I was
*really* hoping it would help, but it didn't.
