I have a problem installing 12.04. All went well on my desktop but when I triedinstalling on the IBM thinkpad which had been running 11.04 it hung up and diedwhen it was detecting the keyboard. I was doing a fresh install.I ended up having to shut it down and restarting but now I have a problem it issaying "could not write bytes: broken pipes." Then it goes to terminal and asksfor my login and password. Since I was having problem with the language andkeyboard selection I have no idea what the login is nor the password.Unfortunately it will not proceed beyond this point of getting my login &password. How do I proceed?
R> Unfortunately it will not proceed beyond this point of getting myR> login & password. How do I proceed?Do another clean install and if 12.04LTS doesn't want to play ball tryinstalling 11.10 again and then updating / upgrade to 12.04
Tried that already! I have the bios set to boot from the CD but beforethe CD begins it comes up with the request for login to 12.04 and Ican't get the CD to respond until I do the login, which I do not know.
RG> I have the bios set to boot from the CD but before the CD beginsRG> it comes up with the request for login to 12.04If it goes to the login for the borked 12.04 install then it's nothonouring the boot from CD so double check that it really is set thatway. Do you get the CD spinning up when booting and activity on thedrive indicator LED ?
I have checked the bios and it is set for CD but the CD does not spinnor does the light come on.I then set the bios to Removable devices and inserted a thumb drive thathas the ISO on it but again we go to the login.
Sounds like the BIOS has been corrupted so try resetting it using thejumper on the motherboard ( if it has one ) and/or removing thebattery. You'll need to reset the time but see if this corrects theload device selection.I have seen it where the only cure is to flash the BIOS but hopefullyjust resetting will be enough.
Tried removing the battery and then checked the bios to make sure it wason boot CD first. But no change, still no spin to the CD and it asksfor the login. How do you flash the bios?
did you try cd in another box? did you try an external cd player on your box? ijust ordered 2 1204 dvds, so i dont have much info now. did have similar problemwith win7, after 2 tries, i had 2 reinstall ubuntu to get cd drivers.
I using the same CD that I installed 12.04 on my desktop. But for somereason it hung up during installation on my laptop (IBM ThinkPad) Thereare no cables to the CD drive, it just plugs into the mother board?
