HP zd8000 wireless

I am the person that helps my coworkers with
their computer problems so I am not totally clueless.

Today I made the plunge and installed Ubuntu on my HP zd8000 and even
got rid of my windows. I knew I would have some problems getting my
wireless to work, but had found a lot of information and thought I
could do it. I have downloaded the ndiswrapper and tried to follow
commands suggested but it is not working. The version I installed is
the Hardy Heron. Can anyone point me to something that will help?

I have also noticed that if I lean my palms on my laptop, the cursor
bounces to another place and starts typing. It did not do this with
windows--is there a setting change I can do?

Did you go into the Network from System and activate the wireless you
found there?

The movement is probably due to the touch pad. You need to go to the
Touch pad makers site to see if they have a Linux version driver. Or
switch of the touch pad and use a plug in or wireless mouse,

Yes, I did go into the Network from system and activate the wireless.
I have a wireless pcmcia card from another laptop that I have tried.
It does see that card, but it will not connect. I have put in my WEP
till I am sick of it and it still will not connect. If I connect the
wire from my DSL then I can connect to the internet.

I do have a mouse. I will still go look for the Linux version driver.

I think your card requires ndiswrapper to be installed.
It depends on what the chip set is in the WIFI card.

Then its the driver for the card. go to the card manufacturers site and
see if there is a linux one, if not its a different card for you. You
could of course do a google search for linux driver for it, you never know.

In the interim, I got my wireless light to light up, but still cannot
connect through the wireless. My router is a Microsoft Broadband
Networking MN-700. Is that my problem? I have looked for drivers for
it. The ones I found were .exe files and I couldn't do anything with
them in Heron. Do I need drivers for it?

I think I need to try redoing my wireless network and see if that helps.
