dvd drawer won't open

Date: Dec 07    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 357

My cd reader will open when I press the buttonon the front of
it. The only way I can open the dvd writer reader is to restart
Ubuntu. This is with no dvd in it but it won't open when there is one
in the drawer either. I am trying to install freedos in Vbox.

Have you tried pushing a straightened paperclip or a toothpick in the
emergency release hole on the front of the drive?

This is not to do with software but to do with you CD and DVD drives.
Make sure you have then installed correctly as Master and Slave and that
the connections of the strips are all securely plugged in. If all is
well I would suspect the drives.

Assuming using ubuntu, go to places computer and right click on the drive
select eject. If this fails try opening a terminal cd to /media and type eject
the drive letter cd cd1 dvd whatever is appropriate. You may need to put sudo
in front of the eject command.
