Help 9.10 won't start

Date: Dec 05    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 427

I need some major help I think.

I dual boot with xp, and used Ubuntu last night. This morning my system would
not come out of sleep mode so I shut it down. Upon bringing the system back up I
get Grub, select the correct version and it goes to the beginning splash screen
(the circle) and then the screen goes blank. I have waited to make sure it
wasn't doing it's thing and after several mins nothing at all. Any help would be
welcomed.

How do I remove GRUB from my computer start up if I can't get Ubuntu restarted,
and I have Ubuntu on a external HD, is there a way to reformat it thru XP, as I
am thinking of dong a fres install, on the HD but XP does not see the HD I have
9.10 on.

Did you try to boot up in recovery mode?

There are several grub repair utilities like
http://www.supergrubdisk.org/which allow you to boot from their CD and
recover the grub. If you need to
just restore the Windows boot process get a copy of the old DOS fdisk and
run "fdisk /mbr". This will rebuild the master boot record and remove
anything other than Windows boot information. I realize this information is
years out of date but it probably still works.
