USB / Serial Port Adapter

Date: Dec 07    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 970

I'm considering buying a netbook to install Ubuntu on. Where I live I'm
stuck with Dial Up and with Linux that means a serial port modem. I see that
they have dropped Serial Ports from lots of new computers and I can't find any
netbook with one.
Can anyone tell me if Ubuntu will let me use a USB to Serial Port adapter
for use with the modem?

Google {"USB modem" +56K} (after removing the braces). Apparently US Robotics
sells one with a Linux driver. By going to an all-in-one USB Modem you end up
with a smaller kit and you know for sure that the modem for sure will operate
with your USB port. If you buy a USB-to-serial adapter and it doesn't work, you
probably can't expect much support from either your modem manufacturer or your
adapter manufacturer.
