Will This USB Wireless Adaptor Work

Date: Jan 02    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 435

To save messing about with upgrading and still not being able to
get a wireless adaptor to work, could anyone tell me if this adaptor
will work with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS

It's a PEAK 54Mbps.11g Wireless LAN USB2.0 Adapter.

That may be a after market card with a name brand chip set. Please see this link

I've found through trial and error that Linux works automaticaly with wireless
adaptors with 'Atheros' chipsets. My son found a cheap usb adaptor at Walmart
and it worked on his Dell laptop. I investigated & found it had Atheros chipset.
I have 2 desktops with Ubuntu & found Airlink cards employ Atheros as well. The
computers saw them and did not need ndiswrapper or command line manipulation.

If you can get hold of 'Veho' wireless usb adapter - you should be fine.

It was the only adapter I found that on the packaging expressly said Linux
supported.
Plugged it in and worked out of the box flawlessly including for WPA
encrytion !

Peakhardware does reveal the chipset they are using in their wireless
cards. So, you should contact their support department and ask.
<peakhardware.com/.../productlist.asp

Then you could look for other products that use similar chipsets in the
supported hardware list.
