Sound card drivers

Date: Jan 23    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 468

I have been working on converting my PC from Pulse audio to OSS4. I
removed pulse audio and installed OSS4.

For some reason I don't have a driver installed any more. How can I
get it back? I am using 10.04. I suppose I could move on to 10.10
or even 11.04, not sure I am ready for either of those yet.
My reason for trying to get to OSS4, is that I can't use headphones
with my laptop, and then also trying to use applications for ham
radio don't always work the way they used to so have been told things
work better under OSS4.

Anyway I would like to get my sound card driver back.
Can I download a Ubuntu driver package or something. Or do I need to
reinstall 10.04 and go though all the updates. Then I am still using
pulse audio.

Did you install oss4 from the repositories? I think there is (maybe was) a bug
in that package, though i dont recall it removing drivers. If it is just the
driver, there should be no problem reinstalling the driver, i would think. You
shouldnt need to start over. Its also possile to have pulse and oss4 on the
machine and just have pulse turned off.
