Ubuntu Linux 4Front Technology -- OSS Sound Driver vs. ALSA and Pulse

Date: Dec 04    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 453

I had to download 4Front Technology OSS Sound Driver to get my sound to work on
Ubuntu Linux 9.10. Did anyone else have to do this? My understanding is that
it will only work for about a year and then you have to purchase a permanent
license from 4Front Technology? Is there any work around this for computers
that don't work with ALSA and Pulse sound and only work with OSS Sound -
Drivers? Do you think the new Ubuntu 10 coming out at the end of April 2010,
will solve the OSS sound driver problem for computers that don't work with ALSA
and Pulse?

I don't have a direct answer to the specific question you asked
but when I've run into issues like that in the past I find it
easier to just buy supported hardware and circumvent any
compatibility issues with the OS or drivers.
