Restricted packages not working?

Date: Dec 04    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 557

I've been having problems with the restricted packages while installing Ubuntu
or re-installing Kubuntu. Ubuntu-restricted gave me an error and
Kubuntu-restricted does not even download, nothing. The Kpackagekit list just
refreshes as if there is nothing wrong. I know that in Kubuntu, you can get
Amarok to trigger a download of restricted packages but what is wrong with the
downloads from KpackageKit?

Does anyone else have this problem?

Try Synaptic or use sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras in a
terminal. I don't like Packagekit myself. I am not sure why you can't
install the restricted-extras because I have used K/Ubuntu for years and
never had a problem in dozens of installations. I have both Kubuntu and
Ubuntu restricted-extras installed on several computers now.

When asking for help it is good to provide as much information, such as the
precise error message, in this case.
