Printer Help: laserjet doent work after move to 8.04

Date: Dec 18    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 390

I have to say 8.04 is no where near as stable as 6.06 or 7.04
was for me. Firefox, Thunderbird, OO all seem to crash just whenever.
And even the OS itself just kinda - logs out - at random points.

But right now Im working on getting my printer to work again.

I have a HP LaserJet 4050 connected via usb. I installed hpijs but
when I search for printers - one can not be found. Even when I TELL it
where it is it cant be found.

I had a similar problem with an earlier upgrade (Breezy to Dapper) and
my DeskJet 840. For some reason, gnome-cups-manager hadn't been
automatically upgraded so I had to upgrade it manually, after which
everything worked OK.

As for stability, I've had absolutely NO problems with 8.04
Now,the printer issue is extremely crappy. I have a Dell all-in-one
printer that has NO support whatsoever under ANY flavor of Linux. I've
searched for days on the 'net with no luck at all. It seems that Dell
printers are proprietary for Winblows only. I wish you luck with the HP.
