Maildir gone missing

Date: Dec 05    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 360

When I got up this morning Thunderbird was running very slowly. I tried to send
a email and it said it couldnt copy sent message to folder. So I went to
/data/wadesmart/Maildir and... its gone! Yup, I paniced.

So I did some searching and I did located a Maildir at /home/wadesmart/Maildir.
It has 24 messages in cur from today. None of my other mail is there.

1) I dont know how that was created there.
2) I dont know where my mail went.
3) I went through the logs and I see postfix did move the mail to maildir.

Im just a little confused as to how this can even happen.

Dovecot and postfix both say my mail is going to /data/wadesmart/Maildir.

Any chance that your /data filesystem wasn't mounted, and that Thunderbird
created a new Maildir in a default location?

I dont know. It could have been. I have since installed a backup and am
up and running fine. Though, it was a scare. Thunderbird couldnt have
created a maildir though. TB is imap to dovecot.
