Kubuntu 11.04 Shut down

Date: Feb 04    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 585

Since I was having problems with the 11.04 release of Ubuntu, I decided to try
Kubuntu again (64 bit version). All was well until I attempted to shut the
system down. When nothing happened with the gui shut down button, I opened a
terminal and executed 'sudo shutdown -h now' which worked after I provided my
password. This leads me to believe that I do not have shutdown privileges as a
user. Is there a way to correct this, or do I have to bring up a terminal every
tim I need to shut the machine down?

I've been using Kubuntu for years and never encountered this problem. I am
not sure why you are having it. I don't think that it has anything to do
with Kubuntu itself. I would rather not speculate without knowing more. You
say nothing happened with the GUI. Does it just sit there and do nothing?
For how long? What processes are you running? Does this happen every time or
just sometimes? What other desktops and window managers are installed?
