I tried that one a few months ago, I have a friend who does media work and
uses Apple/Adobe products almost exclusively. I know very little about that
kind of work, but wanted to see if open source could compete. He's too busy
to give any of it a shot but it seemed like it could be useful to someone
who works with lots of audio and video and web content in multiple formats.
But I have no need for so many of the packages it was just too much for me.
I'm a bit of a minimalist when it comes to this stuff. I like having what I
need and not much more. Even sifting through the application menu to find a
program was a nightmare. It was a great way to check out many of the
packages side by side though, as just about every media related program
available is there. Nice place to visit, wouldn't want to live there. I
think I stopped using it because it wasn't updating properly and I was ready
to move on.

No problem. If you do give it a shot, I'd love to hear how some of the
tools stack up against Adobe products.

I'm downloading the .ISO.

It looks to me like an extended edition of Ubuntu Studio, that I am
"using".

I'm still on 10.04 so it might not run on mine hope its what you want how does
it compare to adobe equivalents

I can't yet answer your questions by content.

The catch is in my word "using" (including the quotes).

To me, Ubuntu currently is a promising experiment on a spare
(dual-boot) computer. I may extend the experiment to another one
(again dual-boot). I'm still "inside, looking out" Windows.

I think I'd better not install that ArtistX distro right now, so I
won't be able to judge it soon.

I happen to have the Adobe CS4 suite installed and updated, but not
yet really used. Even though I bought a computer to meet the demands
of Premiere (and of 3D Modeling software).

So, don't hold your breath! :-)
