Can you computer clock - as in the clock on the screen - get behind or run
fast? Ive set my clock back 4 minutes for four months and it keeps getting
ahead again. Im not sure how that can or is happening.

When you installed Ubuntu or one of its take-offs, it usually lets you pick the
area you are in, so the clock should be auto-set from Internet timekeeper
servers.

So its always going to be set ahead of my local clocks.
Got it.

I think you have to select that option, I don't think it is
automatic.

While we hope the clock in our computers/phones/tablets will be accurate
that is not always the case. Variations in accuracy of the crystal
heartbeat of a complex computer are greater than of a single purpose watch.

Automatic correction from an online "atomic" clock is not always the
default setting but it is always available. If its corrected daily it will
keep it very accurate.

Computer clocks are no more accurate than their master clock (crystal)
frequency. This is one reason to update via the Internet perhaps once or twice
a month.

For what it is worth, the radios I work on have their master clock set to better
(far better) than 1 part per million. Those clocks would be quite accurate –
except that they also sync to the gps satellites. Now you’re talking
accuracies somewhere near atomic clocks. Since the devices do have gps,
consider if they were off only 1/10 of a second. How far would the earth turn
in that brief time? Enough to show you on the wrong street, I’d almost
guarantee.

Just set the computer clock once in a while over the Internet, relax, and enjoy.
