You don't give enough information to get serious help. We need to know your OS
including version. This is an Ubuntu group but people use other distros and
there are many versions of Ubuntu, plus all of the variants from the official
ones such as Kubuntu to the unofficial such as Mint. The current version is 8.04
for Ubuntu and its offspring. It makes a big difference because the
configuration tools are different for each.

Also it would be good to know whether it is detected and not connected or set up
or whether it does not exist at all. We also need to know your wireless adapter
including manufacturer and model. Open a terminal and type lshw, press enter. It
will list all of your hardware. Tell what it says re: wireless adapter in the
network section.

While we are at it...

My computer is a Dell Deminsions 4400 running Ubuntu 8.04
Internet is through Verizon using a Westell 327W DLS modem/wireless router
I want to starting a wireless adapter to connect to the Internet.

I would like to get an adapter that is plug-n-play but realize that is still
next to impossible with Linux OS. Are there any adapters that are EASY to
interface?

I know there is a list of adapters athttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessCardsSupported#Wireless%20Net\
work%20InterfacesWhich one, or so, of these have you had good success with and recommend?

I have 3 belkin wireless adapters all in use. An older 'b' F5D6050
which installs and works fine; and two 'g' F5d7050, this comes in
several versions, 1000,2000,3000, all use the rt2500usb driver and you
need 'ndiswrapper' to install the windows drivers.
However version 4000 has Zd1211 driver which is automatically
installed and works 'out of the box', that's the easiest to install.

Sunday night on the way home I purchased a Belkin F5d7050 version 4001 USB
Wireless Adapter. Didn't get a chance to try it out until Monday night.
After some setup trial-n-error, mostly caused by my lack of know how, I
was connected wireless. Seemed to work fast to me. The wireless DSL modem
router it was connecting to was only a few feet away. I had an empty metal
trash can next to me so I put the USB wireless adaptor in it and pointed it
away from the wireless router. It worked great.
