New and Ubuntu

Date: Dec 07    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 390

I combined New and Ubuntu. Anyway, I turned my computer on this morning in
Ubuntu mode, and gosh darn it, the graphics are screwed up. It was probably
something I was tinkering with yesterday, but I can't find it anywhere. The only
setting that appears off is my refresh rate which is set at 85 instead of 60.
The appearance now is such that it has lost the orange in the top and bottom
bars (as well at the loading cursor), the font at login is incredibly small and
weird, and everything is generally messed up. I booted in Vista to type this.
I'm going to try loading Ubuntu in its version of safe mode (if I can), but from
there I'm at a bit off a loss. Ideas?

Never mind, I loaded it in recovery mode, and asked it to try to auto fix
the graphics, and it DID! Wow. This thing is awesome.

It's always pleasing to see someone follow up with a success
story.

At grub. hit escape and use the Recover option. There is a setting to
fix video problems.

What is your video card?......................

I'm not actually too sure. It's a built-in laptop card. I should probably
upgrade someday, but I'd better get a faster CPU before I do that. Anyway, as I
said, I went into grub at start-up and asked it to try to fix the graphics and
it did so perfectly. I'm back on Ubuntu.

Try the command sudo lshw. This will show you all of the hardware on the
computer.
