seamonkey installation fails

Date: Jan 02    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 359

I have been trying to install seamonkey under ubuntu 7.1 and keep
getting the following error

"abc@abc1:~/seamonkey1.1.7/seamonkey-installer$ ./seamonkey-installer
./seamonkey-installer-bin: error while loading shared libraries:
libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
abc@abc1:~/seamonkey1.1.7/seamonkey-installer$"

I have looked for libstdc++.so5 cannot find it under add/remove. CCan
anyone tell me what else to try.

Open Synaptic and do a search for Iceape Suite and download it. Iceape
is the Debian clone of SeaMonkey. The only draw back is that SeaMonkey
extensions and themes will not work with it.

That really does not solve my problem. I could just use Mozilla , but i
really want to get seamonkey going

I had the same problem but was able to solve it. I downloaded the
lasted version of seamonkey from mozilla. I then extracted the zip
file and used the setup inside. It tries to install to user, but gives
you the option to change thedestination. Change It to your home
folder. It will install it there. The addons and theemes will install
from mozilla ok.I had some problems with plugins but solved that by
going to User/lib/firefox/plugins. Copy and paste what you want into
your seamonkey/ plugins folder. Worked for me. You will have to update
from mozilla.
