Date: Feb 18    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 537

I went to Ubuntu 12.10 regular works now with 2 gb
upgrade added the > /dev/null 2>&1 to PPA terminal installation for the Netflix
App and now I too can stream Netflix in Ubuntu 12.10 Linux!

The member said he added this code > /dev/null 2>&1 to PPA terminal installation
to get the movie streaming well and not choppy! :)

P.S. Although, I still have to keep and use WINDOWS for those other important
programs that only run via Windows. :(

Thanks for the update on that and for those wanting to use Netfix on
Ubuntu it's useful information - even if it does mean jumping out of
the LTS safety net into the realm of 6 monthly upgrades ! You'll
escape the clutches of the Redmond Beast yet <lol>

PS - the few programs I need to use that require Windows don't need to
go on-line so I can safely keep on using WinXP in Virtual Box and just
disable internet access on it.

Congratulations. Persistence pays off.

As does the great help from other members of the Ubuntu community.
Somebody somewhere usually has worked out the problem and is all too
willing to freely share it with others.

Your reference to the Ubuntu/Netflix DIY site has helped me too. Tnx !

BTW, having both Mint 13 & 14 , both 64 bit ,on my machine ,I am running
Kubuntu desktop on Mint 13 ,which to me is as if I run the full blown
Kubuntu 12.04 with the added advantage that I have the option of running
Mint Cinnamon .
On the same machine I am running Ubuntu 12.04 (Unity) I am also happy with .
Linux means choice .

Tnx for the hint to run Win apps not available for Linux , in a
virtual environment ,having switched-off Internet access.

The Linux desktop has really matured.
It is good to see that OEMs are increasingly offering Linux on their
machines.
Linux is slowly winning .

Thanks will be ordering Windows 7 Home Premium from Amazon.com store not
third party the original store tonight after midnight for Cyber Monday.

Internet access for iTunes and my local public Library Online Videos, e-books,
and Audio Books only works in windows environment to name a few. View other
important programs too as well....

Have lots of iTunes stuff....

Choice is good. I run lots of distros with every conceivable desktop
environment. I like to keep my options open. I switch quite often if
only for a few days.

I spent the last week in Unity and am feeling comfortable with it now.
I am not big on GNOME Shell or Mate or Cinnamon, but will keep trying
them till they make sense to me (like I did with Unity). Persistence
pays off. Right now Cinnamon locks up on me and Mate (and Trinity) do
not make sense. I am not big on retro. GNOME shell is just too
limiting for my tastes.

I am committed to KDE and Kubuntu as I have invested quite a bit into
the community over the years. I like different things about most
distros and just wish (for a moment) that we could roll all the good
things into one distro, but that would remove choice. And what is good
for one user is not for another. Just use what you like and don't
whine about it or try to put down other distros and I am fine with
that.

My next project is to install Cinnarch which is Arch with Cinnamon.
We'll see how that goes. Maybe I will have one of those Ah-ha moments.
