Choice is good. I run lots of distros with every conceivable desktop
environment. I like to keep my options open. I switch quite often if
only for a few days.
I spent the last week in Unity and am feeling comfortable with it now.
I am not big on GNOME Shell or Mate or Cinnamon, but will keep trying
them till they make sense to me (like I did with Unity). Persistence
pays off. Right now Cinnamon locks up on me and Mate (and Trinity) do
not make sense. I am not big on retro. GNOME shell is just too
limiting for my tastes.
I am committed to KDE and Kubuntu as I have invested quite a bit into
the community over the years. I like different things about most
distros and just wish (for a moment) that we could roll all the good
things into one distro, but that would remove choice. And what is good
for one user is not for another. Just use what you like and don't
whine about it or try to put down other distros and I am fine with
that.
My next project is to install Cinnarch which is Arch with Cinnamon.
We'll see how that goes. Maybe I will have one of those Ah-ha moments.
