Installing a USB drive

I have Ubuntu running very well from a second partition in a 40 g drive but have
only 2G free so I created a USB 40G drive that boots Ubuntu 9.04. Works great
except that the USB drive creates a great deal of RF hash on my transceiver
rendering it totally useless. What I would like to do is install the drive in my
IBM Netvista table top in place of my floppy. There is simply no room to install
it below the existing drive. My question has to do with grub -- will it be able
to boot from the new drive or will it fail to find it since it is not an
external removable source?

Also I did a search for grub and found many references to it. Where is the grub
that boots located? I want to edit it and change which ubuntu boots and place
windows at the very last.
