Incompatability with I Heart Radio Nationwide Streaming???

Date: Feb 11    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 664

Never experienced a problem with Windows when I streamed 550 KFYI in Phoenix,
their most listened to talk news station. However, now I constantly get a
delayed message reading " problems with the recording of this stream, please try
again later".

Glad to see you here. You might let people know that streaming works on
some of your sites but not KFYI. I will help Tom a little on this one to
help get him started. I installed Ubuntu for him and made sure
streaming worked for him.

The question here is that not all stations he would receive on the net
are working for him. I am sure it is a codec problem but I am no longer
local to help him. If anyone has information on what codecs he needs to
listen to the station listed below It would be helpful.

In the future Tom be specific about what version and the OS you have
installed. I believe he is using 11.04 and the Unity desktop.

It is most likely a codec that needs to be installed. It plays fine for
me when I click on the "Listen Live" button.
Tom have you been to the Multimedia & Video forum at the Ubuntu forums?
The second sticky topic has an excellent how to for getting the most out
of Ubuntu music and video.

I don't know about 11.04, but in Ubuntu 10.10 I had to install the w64codecs
package to play Windows-format steaming content in Firefox. If you use 32-bit
Ubuntu, get the w32codecs package.

680News in Toronto still doesn't stream in Chrome, but it does in Firefox. I
can't test KFYI because they won't steam outside the USA.

what is the w32codecs package go by? I typed w32codecs in synaptics and
didn't get any results. I tried w64 as well with no results. Feed us
more info please.

Try Medibuntu in Synaptic..........

Medibuntu is the way to go and is the first thing I install after
installing Ubuntu :-)

The place to go is the Medibuntu web site where the full command to
install through terminal is there:

http://medibuntu.org/repository.php

That link won't work on 12.04 beta but there's a work-around, as ever,
here:

www.unixmen.com/medibuntu-repositories-available-for-ubuntu-12-04-lts-pre\
cise-pangolin-ppa/

Once Medibuntu is installed then run an update manually and it will
put in a lot of new items related to music/video etc. The W32 or W64
codecs ( depending on which is relevant ) will now be there in
syntaptic to install as well as others necessary for encrypted DVD
playback.

In 10.10, the package names are "w32codecs" and "w64codecs." In later versions,
they might be included in the Restricted Extras. I assume anyone interested in
playing music would have the Extras installed.
