compiz.real and APM

I have installed Ubuntu 8.10 on a laptop HP Compaq nc6220. I have to
say it is from far the best release of Ubuntu until now. Everything
is detected and working. Thank to the ubuntu team the did a real good
job.

Since nothing can be perfect. I have from time to time an abend from
compiz. It happenned 3 times during periods where I'm not at the
computer. It seems to be related with the fact that a component of
compiz try to use APM. APM is not used on that machine but rather ACPI.

I have the following message in my log:
---------------------------------------------------------------
Nov 19 23:10:05 pluton kernel: [ 5896.439915] compiz.real[6067]:
segfault at a8 ip 08055c7d sp bfb82bd0 error 4 in

Nov 19 23:11:17 pluton syslogd 1.5.0#2ubuntu6: restart.

the following packages are installed for compiz:
------------------------------------------------------------------
compiz 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1
compiz-core 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1
compiz-fusion-plugins-extra 0.7.8-0ubuntu2
compiz-fusion-plugins-main 0.7.8-0ubuntu2
compiz-gnome 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1
compiz-plugins 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1
compiz-wrapper 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1
compizconfig-backend-gconf 0.7.8-0ubuntu1
libcompizconfig0 0.7.8-0ubuntu2
-------------------------------------------------------------------
my video card is:
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML
Express Graphics Controller (rev 03)

The video driver is intel_agp.

Everything there was installed natively at the installation. All I
have added is the "restricted" package.

Anybody would have a clue of how to solve this ?

This is rather inconvenient, since I use this machine from work with
ssh and sometime lose connection because of that problem.

APM (Advanced Power Management) is the ancestor of ACPI. It was used
for power management. Mostly usefull on laptops. See the following
link http://tuxmobil.org/apm_linux.html

And ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) is a newer
specification that included power management. It has replaced APM on
newer laptops.
