I just downloaded the Linux version of RealPlayer, RealPlayer10GOLD.bin
I have Ubuntu 5.1 Breezy Badger. The file is sitting in the Desktop.
How do I use sudo to install so I can listen to RealAudio files on the
internet?

cd Desktop

chmod +x RealPlayer10GOLD.bin

sudo ./RealPlayer10GOLD.bin

user in your user directory.

./RealPlayerGOLD.bin

Under 6.04 Bash is returning

bash: cdmod: command not found

Why's that?

Incidentally, I am very happy with the RealPlayer install despite the
fact that I haven't found a way to play the older Real 3.0 audio
files. With a good set of speakers, the output is as good as, or
better than, anything I can get from Windoze. Thanks again!

Thanks for the help so far. Now I believe I have successfully used
sudo in the terminal window and have installed RealPlayer 10.0.8.805
for Linux on my Ubuntu Breezy Badger machine. However, when I try to
play earlier versions of RA files, RA 3.0 files to be exact, this is
the error message I get: "The content you are trying to play uses an
audio codec that is obsolete and no longer supported. Please contact
the content provider about using a supported codec."

I can play the same RA 3.0 files in Windoze with the newer or older
RealPlayer so what do I have to do to play the older RA files with the
new RealPlayer in Ubuntu? I have converted some analog audio into the
Real 3.0 format so I need to have a player that I can listen to these
older formats in RealAudio.

Actually, I just found the answer I needed at the Helix website:

Q. What media types are not supported?
The following media types are not supported:

* RealAudio 3
* Windows Media (wmv/wma/asf, mms streaming)
* Older QuickTime codecs (eg, Sorenson. New QuickTime supported
via MPEG4)
* MPEG1, MPEG2
* Digital CD playback
* DVD

Bummer. So I guess what I need now is to find some Linux player so I
can listen to RA 3.0 files in Ubuntu Breezy Badger. Any suggestions?

I use mplayer & the mplayer-plugin for mozilla!

mplayer

Mplayer & codecs are in mediabuntu repos:

Okay, I'll try it. I just extracted MPlayer-1.0rc1.tar.bz2
into a Desktop folder, named MPlayer. Looks like all the files are
there. Can you give me any pointers on how to compile any of this
into an executable, using sudo in a terminal window?
