Card Reader Problem

Date: Dec 06    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 567

Well this is a bit strange. I have an Acer Extensa 5620-4621 laptop and I'm
using Ubuntu 9.04 (wubi) and I'm having a bit of trouble with the 5-in-1 card
reader at the front. At first I thought it was the card reader in general, but I
discovered it's a bit more complicated than that. You see, whenever I try my
Lexar 8GB SDHC Platinum II card, Ubuntu fails to recognize it. However, when I
try either of my standard SD cards, there's no problem. I know that the card
reader can recognize the high capacity format as it does so under Vista. I'm
wondering if, perhaps, Ubuntu is misinterpreting the card reader, or if there's
some other problem I haven't considered. I haven't been able to find any
information about this on google, so your help is appreciated.

My Lexar card works with Ubuntu. Perhaps your Lexar card has gone wonky.

No, it's definitely not my card. My card works in the reader when I'm running
Vista. What I'm wondering is, since it's the only High Capacity card I've tried,
perhaps Ubuntu mistakenly detected my card reader as one that can't read HC.
It's just a thought.

My Lexar is HC and it works fine with Ubuntu 9.04. I am not saying that is the
card, but that Lexar HCs work fine on my computer, so it must either be your
reader or the card or the combination and not an Ubuntu problem as you seem to
be thinking, unless your Ubuntu is different from mine which is least likely.

I'm not trying to put Ubuntu down, or place blame on it, but I happen to know
that the combination of that card and that reader does work. I doubt that my
Ubuntu is different from yours, but my computer and card reader probably are,
which is why I'm wondering if there might be some sort of communication problem
between the reader or card and Ubuntu.

Likely driver support for that particular combination.
