Audio video sync problem

Date: Feb 12    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 476

I have a little Acer netbook that my friends daughter uses for school. She was
having win7 issues so I put 12.04 on it. A lot of her class work involves
watching video in class. The school made some type of change recently which
requires her to only use IE (yes, I hear the bitching, I did it too!) so she
moved back to W7.

She started noticing extensive audio sync issues. Her teacher showed her how to
access the alternative videos without having to use IE. (How interesting is
that) It was fine for a video or two but then she started seeing audio sync
issues - sometimes up to 30 seconds.

She brought it over and I played with it for a while and didnt notice anything
but then, over about a two hour period I started seeing it too.

Its the atom cpu with integrated gpu with only 1g of ram. She used it for months
watching tv online without any issues (on ubuntu) so Im not sure what is causing
this.

I also dont know enough about how videos sync audio and video to know if its a
specific site or encoding type or what.

It is hard giving any suggestions without a file to view. What file
type is it? Can we view one so we can see the problem for ourselves? IE
is just a browser and a poor one at that. What add on is used to view
the file? I use an Acer netbook but have had no problems setting it up
with 12.04 and watching any video in firefox.

If alternate videos are available converters before watching may be an
answer. The download speed may hender smooth rendering. It may be that
the video is raw video, if that is the case then maybe a complete
download before watching would do the trick. More info please.
