I've gotten to the point of preferring web-based e-mail.

Its fast, I handle lots of mail and the filters always work, the spam
filters are better than any other client I have had. I tried to use
online webmail but, here is the thing about that (for me): when I need
something I have to be online. Now, my pc is online 24/7 but sure
enough, several times I have needed something and I couldnt get my mail
from gmail one time because either a connection problem or gmail was
down (which is totally rare anyway).

I think it depends on how you use it. With the amount of mail I handle I
couldnt do web mail but someone with less could.

Are you saynig the spam filters you get with standard email accounts still dont
apply? ie if yahoo would have put spam into junk mail folder, does it not
reproduce a junk mail folder for that email in the application?

Tried that an Opera as alternatives to Outlook Express, when I was using
Windows. Liked Thunderbird better, and stayed with it when I switched to Linux.

I always use Gmail from the web browser. It can be used anywhere, has
huge free storage and hasn't been down (when I wanted to use it
anyway) for years. I use it on my Android phone as well as every
computer I own, regardless of the operating system (Kubuntu, Puppy
Linux, XP). Consistent interface, no worries about filling the hard
drive and reliability far beyond what I could guarantee with local
storage.

Thunderbird. It's not the ultimate mail client but for me it works best
of all I've tried, and the mailboxes are human readable which comes in
handy at times.

I tried evalution which is native to Ubuntu, but since I had used
Thunderbird
before installed that and use it now. And I can port it to Windows easier if
I
want to or need to in the future.

I really wish Evolution was up to the task. Its slow, doesnt filter as
well, spam filtering SUCKS!!! But I would've liked having a cal and
email and tasks and to do all in one app instead of multiple ones ...
but such is life.

I've used Yahoo Classic email for decades. Yahoo keeps imroving it to
uselessness and I keep resetting it to the original classic model which
continues to serve me well. I would like a few changes but those are never the
ones Yahoo implements.

I also have been using Yahoo Classic since my first computer 10 years ago but
since I have been using Ubuntu they do not switch me to the new one.

I was using Ubuntu up until Jan. when I started having trouble getting on line
at all on my Apartment computer via Wifi. A problem I am still trying to
address. So, since then I have had to use (gag) windows to do email. The place
to change back to Classic is hard to locate under options I think it is now.
Well worth finding it as the new versions of Yahoo mail suck. I'm pretty sure
you can change back even under Ubuntu if you locate that option. It is hard to
find though.
