Upgrading Hardware problems

Date: Dec 31    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 344

Have been attempting to come to grips with first
Feisty & now Gutsy but keep
running into trouble with hardware changes.
Had to do a fresh install after Gutsy failed to boot
following a graphics
card upgrade & now am in trouble again having swapped
my 19" CRT for a 22"
LCD monitor. My resolution was down to 600 x 400
something with no other
options available & my fumbling attempts to edit etc
xorg resulted in a
non-booting OS once again.
My query is: Does Ubuntu have anything similar to M$'s
"Found new Hardware
Wizard" to assist a novice when adding /changing
hardware?
I have just obtained a new quad-core desktop running
Vista ultimate which
I detest & am keen on switching over from M$.
I hope it will be compatible with Gutsy but so far
every time I've had
Ubuntu up & running on my older PC I seem to break it
