need help with a possible hardware problem

I've been down on Feisty Fawn, it looks like the problem maybe due to
a hardware issue.

The problem: Hard drive light is constantly flashing.

Here is what I've tried

Two drives, one SATA with XP, one IDE with Feisty Fawn.

Partitioned the SATA drive & installed both XP & FF.

The SATA Drive with XP only

The IDE drive with FF only.

I did clean installs on both drives.

There is no change.

I did not notice this problem when in FF but I saw the light flashing
when in XP. But the hard drive in Windows has always seem to have a
will of it own. One reason I like Linux.
