Ubuntu Under Windows XP Home Edition

Date: Dec 19    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 492

I received the cd version of Ubuntu 8.04 a couple of days ago. I was able to
install it running under windows on a machine that is running XP pro, but when I
went to install on another machine running XP Home Edition it didn't install it,
everytime the dual boot screen comes up and I select Ubuntu I get an error
message 81 about a partition issue. Has anyone else experienced this type of
situation.

The message that is displayed on startup is as follows:

Unrecognized partition table for drive 81. Please rebuild it using a
Microsoft-compatable Fdisk tool (err=28)"

This machine a Dell is the only one out of 3 that I get this message on.

I originally had the same problem but successfully installed Ubuntu 8.04 on a
laptop running Windows XP Home Edition. I used Wubi to do it.

First you need to download Wubi and install that. Then install Ubuntu. It worded
fine for me.
