Ubuntu Optimization for a laptop

I've got a Fujitsu Siemmens Amilo D1840 laptop with Ubuntu Feisty installed.

How can I optimize my Ubuntu for laptops? I need an optimization for long
battery life and low power processor when I use the laptop unpludged.
