Ubuntu friendly laptop

My son is looking for a Ubuntu friendly laptop. Is one brand more
friendlier? I heard Dell was going to offer Ubuntu but I did not see
that option at their web site.

I have an HP Pavilion Laptop. I am quite new to Ubuntu or any type of
Linux. Except for a small issue with my wireless card, Ubuntu picked up
all my hardware with no problems at all, printer, wireless mouse, usb
thumb drives etc. It was great. Even the MP3 player just plugged in
and away it went. So HP's seem to be pretty much okay.

My Dell Inspiron has liked Ubuntu from 5.10. Again, everything just...
worked (mind you, upping the RAM to 2GB didn't hurt :-) )

I see that some one gave you a link on the Dell. Yes they do and not bad for the
price. You are getting a very good system compare with windows.
Good thing that all of the HD AND wireless work right off the bat.

I was under the impression that my son had tried Ubuntu on his 3 year
old Dell laptop before I posted this question. He had tried SUSE
without success and more or less gave up due to school starting. I got
him to download both Ubuntu & Kubuntu. Kubuntu booted right up and
even recognized his wireless card, something XP never did. He had some
problems with Ubuntu live CD at first but was partitioning his hard
drive to install both Kubuntu & Ubuntu the last time we spoke. He was
having some problems connecting to the internet by wire.

I'm running Kubuntu Feisty flawlessly on a Dell Inspiron 9200. I've
goe everything working - bluetooth, hibernate, suspend, ATI drivers.
It took me some time to figure it all out, but it's a solid OS.
