Ubuntu, Mozilla & Adobe Flash problems

Date: Dec 09    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 442

I have been having a problem viewing files created by Adobe Flash
(formerly known as MacroMedia Flash), not Shockwave Flash.

My problem appears to be with viewing the videos, not with the other
Adobe Flash features.

For example, the initial page http://golf.leupold.com appears to load
fully functionally. The small windows appear to play "thumbnail" video
clips. Clicking on one of windows like "On the course" thumbnail yields
a visual window that attempts to load in the high bandwidth version, but
fails. It automatically changes to the low bandwidth window and there is
sound and a visual window that attempts to load, but fails. I cannot
navigate the site, nor can I shut off the sound or the visual window
that is attempting to load.

Sometimes things work fine, like
<http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/>, and
<http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/>, or
http://www.brunoisakovic.com/ , http://www.pivotaudio.com/, and
http://www.bailalouca010.nl/.

Sometimes I get a blank space http://www.cadabra.pl/ ,
www.leupold.com/.../

At other web sites I get a non page without navigation or movement
http://www.olivia-ruiz.com/.

Or I get what looks like a non functional window with a video control
bar, a caution symbol and a spinning object
www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/ .

At this point I am trying to determine whether the problem is with sites
I am visiting, or something on my system. I'm using a two month old Acer
Aspire 7530 with 2G memory, a linux Ubuntu 9.04 system, Mozilla Firefox
3.5 (without the Firefox Flashblock add-on) and....drum roll
please....Flash Player 10.0.22.87-1 (if I believe my computer) or
9.0.999.0 if I believe the Adobe website
<http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/>.

I haven the same problem of getting the golf site to load up. It may not be your
fault at all. It could be the web site all together. Some times web programmers
are one track mind and use a format that is this or that.
With Ubie AKA Ubuntu that to order to upgrade Firefox. The kernel will be
upgraded as well.

I am using Firefox 3.0.11 (as of this week) and Adobe's site says I have
10.0.22.87. Firefox Add-ons says I have Shockwave 10.0 r22.

I watched the "on the course" video, and a couple of Riflescope videos.
Navigating Cadabra is a challenge, but I found some Flash items which all worked
fine. (Animations, not videos.) Olivia appears to have a low-bandwidth server,
but other than that her videos played. Another site with navigation challenges.
I didn't find anything interesting at the Longtail site.

I hope that helps you. I suspect you have too much stuff rather than too
little.
