Trouble with Freebasic and xbasic

I cannot run xbasic properly, it does not find a certain file, which is there,
it is evident.cannot compile anything. Cannot make standalone executables.
Please help !
Is there another efficient BASIC compiler for Ubuntu that can make standalone
executables ?
Xbasic cannot be run.
