I think that there is lot a difference in the exam
objectives and exam contents between SCJP 1.4 and 1.2
as far as 1.4 is concerned there is no java.io or
java.awt included in 1.4 paper,about 1.2 I dont know
much but be sure about the exam contents,You can visit
the Sun's site for that.

You can start preparing from old 1.2 books to save time, leave those topics that
are not included in 1.4. For the additional topics, consult online resources
after this startup preparation.
