Question about Form fields and macros

Can an active x form field be detected in a macro that requires it to be
marked in some way? I currently have an excel file that has a macro that
depends on certain cells to have a value of "x" in them. We want the cell
with the "x" value to be replaced with a radio button but want the macro to
read and take the value of of the cell associated to the "x" value and add
them together and divide by the number of "x"'s to return an "x" in the
corresponding value of the average. But the macro checks to see if there
are "x's" if not the macro will not let you continue until all are filled in
The powers that be want to use radio buttons in stead of having to type an
"x". My question is this. Can a radio button be used and have the Macro
be able to read it and work in the same manor as it does now?

I have searched the net but cannot find any thing. I am not sure if I am
searching correctly. Can some one point me in the correct direction? Does
any one have any insight to the form controls in Excel and macros?
