No sound in 10.10

Date: Nov 27    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 352

Uppgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 this last weekend and now I have no sound,
vieos are silent, you tube is silent and my music files are silent.
Everything runs and the progress bar moves along but it' all dead.

Anyone else having this problem?
Anyone know a fix?

Is the volume control muted? That's the default start state after a new
install.

no - It's maxed. That was the first thing I checked too........
Meantime I was just about to post again as it's fixed:

I also checked the settings in PulseAudio Preferences and ticked a few more
boxes in Users and Groups.
I don't know what it was but I haven' done any harm apparently and I have
'sound' nice!

Pulse audio problems have virtually disappeared. It was only a problem
with some sound cards. I have never had a problem, although have seen
plenty of others who did. But reports such as yours are very few.

It likely has to do with your mixer settings or sound card driver. The
mixer is in the Preferences section of the System menu under Sound. To
find out about your equipment, type lshw in a terminal and check out
the *-multimedia section. You can share what it says under than
section and maybe that will be informative. Additional drivers may
help in the Administration menu.

To you have a on board sound device as well a sound card? If you have both. You
need to go into your bios and disable the on board sound device.
