I've recently found a need for a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device as my family has infused themselves with the internet.
Upon searching to buy these types of appliances I've come to learn they are nothing more than an embedded OS with a pair of hard drives and an average to low grade cpu.
I have enough spare components to create such a device and have even found some software from http://www.storaid.com that will convert my legacy computer into a NAS appliance but the software is rather pricey at $100 on sale. From what I can tell it appears that the OS for the appliance is nothing more than slim line version of Linux that can be installed via a floppy disk..
Can anyone give me any more info.. Unfortunately I'm somewhat of a Linux newbie as well.. I've looked at Microsofts SAK (Server Appliance Kit) and I'm simply not pleased with it..
Your input is greatly appreiated..
