Kbuntu 11.10 32-bit

I tried installing Kbuntu 11.10 32-bit, which I think is the current version on
an old laptop. This was a CD I burned as an ISO file. The CD booted but ran for
very long time. The screen went blank and I could never get back see what was on
the screen (pressing shift, moving mouse).

Try pressing esc after it starts to load, just before or as the
first graphical screen appears. This should give you text view of the load
process and you can see better where it is stalling. It could be a bad
disk, a bad burn or a problem with your computer and KDE in which case you
may have to try some boot parameters to shut off some of the functions. I
don't know without more information what is wrong, though. Try again and
post what you see. Also tell us more about your computer.

On old computers try Lubuntu first. If it won't run try PcLinuxOS, Mint, or
Puppy. On one I installed Mint 12, but when it did updates I lost the newer
Gnome 3 gui and it fell back to Gnome 2. So you never know...
