I do not program, but in synaptic there is loads compilers. Take your pick.

Did you try to re-install 7.10, format and re-install, to see if these
problems would clear up?

Did not have my computer on for over six weeks so was just using a
laptop with only Vista on but yesterday booted into Unbuntu and
downlaoded updates automatically and then the upgrade to 7.10 and bingo
it works like a dream, finding my router and broadband instantly.

I think it depends on your router model and wireless card every time. If
drivers are easy Ubuntu has them.
